Welcome to our second Full Moon in Capricorn for 2024! This is a rare occurrence that is giving us an opportunity to release anything that doesn’t support our visions and long-term goals. While the first Full Moon in Capricorn likely initiated themes and energies surrounding our long-term goals and made us aware of what needs releasing, this second Full Moon serves as a culmination and deepening of these energies, asking us to fully release what no longer serves our higher visions and goals. But have your wits about you – this Full Moon will be bringing with it some intense, transformative energy making it much more emotional than a typical Full Moon.
Understanding Capricorn Energy
Capricorn is an Earth sign ruled by Saturn. Its energy is associated with ambition, discipline, responsibility, and long-term goals. Capricorn is represented by the mountain goat, an animal that will keep climbing the mountain until it reaches the top. That’s the essence of Capricorn – it doesn’t stop until it reaches its goals. If challenges occur, they find another way to reach their desires.
About the Full Moon in Capricorn
Any Full Moon is a time of culmination, illumination, and release. It represents the peak of the lunar cycle, where the intentions set during the New Moon come to fruition. Themes and energies coming up for you during this time could relate to the intentions you set at the New Moon in Cancer the other week, or they could relate to the intentions you set at the New Moon in Capricorn six months ago. This is where journaling comes in handy as you can go back and see what you wrote during either New Moon and see what’s coming up for you now. I personally like working with 6-month cycles as they tend to have a bit more relevance for me, but you do what works for you!
This Full Moon in particular invites us to reflect on our long-term goals, evaluate our progress, and set new objectives grounded in reality and practicality. This is a great time to pay attention to what’s coming to the surface for release in order to achieve your long-term goals. Challenges could have risen for you recently or maybe you’ve just fallen off the bandwagon from going after those goals. This is where going back to 6 months ago is helpful, as that would have been right around the start of the new year. What were your new year intentions? Are you still working towards them? Have you fallen off track or have things changed? Now is a great time to focus on releasing the things that are getting in your way from achieving your goals and make an action plan to get after it again OR set new goals if your previous goals no longer align. Remember, Capricorn is all about discipline and responsibility – so make sure you set realistic expectations for yourself that you can commit to long-term.
Other Energies Influencing this Full Moon
This past week has had its fair share of crazy. We’ve already experienced the Mars-Uranus conjunction which brought a bit of a shock wave to us collectively and individually depending on where it’s happening in your chart. Now we have a potent Full Moon which can cause heightened emotions regardless of which Full Moon it is. On top of that, we have Pluto adding a deep and intense layer to the mix. Talk about a lot going on.
Pluto is the planet of transformation, power, and rebirth. With it sitting right next to the Moon, this can bring hidden emotions to the surface, catalyze profound changes, and offer opportunities for deep healing and regeneration. Be prepared for:
- Emotional Intensity: Pluto’s influence can amplify emotional experiences, bringing hidden or suppressed feelings to the forefront. With a Full Moon in Capricorn, these emotions may or may not relate to those long-term goals of yours.
- Transformation and Rebirth: This is a powerful time for personal transformation. This energy encourages you to let go of old patterns and embrace new beginnings.
- Deep Healing: Pluto’s energy can facilitate deep emotional and psychological healing, helping you release past traumas and move forward.
- Empowerment and Control: This energy can also highlight issues of power, control, and personal empowerment. It’s a time to reclaim your power and assert your boundaries when it comes to your life and your visions for your future.
How to work with this Full Moon
First, take a deep breath. If things are too intense, give yourself the space and time to feel what’s coming up. If you’re looking for some deeper ways to work with this Full Moon, you can try the following:
- Reflect on Your Progress: Take time to reflect on the progress you have made on your long-term goals. Celebrate your achievements and assess areas where you can improve. This is a great time to set new intentions and goals if you find your needs and wants have changed, or recommit to the goals you set already set for yourself if they still feel aligned. (Tip: Think back to the New Year – that was around the time of the New Moon in Capricorn. What goals did you set for yourself then? Do they still feel good to work toward? If so, what action steps can you take to recommit to those goals? If they don’t feel aligned anymore, then use this time to set new goals!)
- Embrace Transformation: With Pluto’s influence, this is a potent time for transformation. Identify areas in your life that require change and start taking action steps towards your own evolution.
- Release Old Patterns: Perform any rituals and exercises to help release old patterns and negative energies, especially any outdated patterns and energies that are holding you back from achieving your goals. This could include writing what you want to let go of on a piece of paper and burning it (safely!), doing some form of release meditation, a form of somatic movement, or doing some physical activities like yoga or a long walk in nature. If you aren’t sure what old patterns or negative energies need releasing, then I suggest taking time to journal to see what comes out on paper. By brain dumping, we allow space for us to see things we may not normally see.
- Deepen Your Commitments: As you revisit your long-term goals, make some commitments to yourself to achieve them. Use Capricorn’s disciplined energy to create a structured path forward and take time to envision your future. I suggest starting small and finding one small way you can take an action step towards that goal for the next week.
